There is nothing odd at all about kids going in the same or similar vocations as their parents.  Of course it gives them a foot in the door.  They still have to sink or swim on their own, though.
Why don't you hear about the ones didn't follow in their parents footsteps?  They're not celebrities, just ordinary people.  The ones who tried to and failed are quickly swept under the rug.
