MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- I mentioned in my column from Memphis Madness that the school put together a video to honor Penny Hardaway that doubled as a not-so-subtle recruiting pitch to Adonis Thomas, who was seated courtside.
Thomas is from Melrose High in Memphis.
Sporting News has him ranked as the Class of 2011's top prospect.
That makes him a local priority for the Tigers just like Hardaway was once a local priority for the Tigers, and the three-minute video the school assembled hammered that point home. For instance, consider this quote from Cedric Henderson that was about Hardaway but clearly directed at Thomas, too: "He chose to stay at home and that's what made it more special. ... It was special for him to stay at home and take the program to a whole other level."

It really was a clever addition to the festivities.

Blabario- idiot knows NOTHING about basketballMemphis won Nat'l AAU title in 2008 and runner-up in 2009. You better worry about when Cal screws up and HE WILL and does not get top recruiting class one year. All his recruits leave after one year.

The Penny video about Memphians staying homeHey Blab, what's really funny is watching create situations out of thin air where you can say stupid, idiotic things that have absolutely nothing to do with anything being discussed and feel good about yourself. It's like masturbation in public ... dude just stop.

The Penny video about Memphians staying homeIt really is a unique situation in Memphis. Its something no other program in the country (including kentucky) experiences on the same level. Local kids leading your team at a high level takes the excitement level to a place these other programs can't comprehend.

The Penny video about Memphians staying homeIs it just me or are most of Pastner's recruits from right there in Memphis? What happens when Memphis has a down year in high school basketball??
LOL Memphis doesn't have down years for recruits in basketball. They have had times when kids left the city, but they dont have down years. There is always top talent coming out of the city. ALWAYS.... rewind to 1998 when Larry Finch was really sick and the kids really started leaving to play out of town. Tony Harris went to Tennessee (SEC), Cory Bradford went to Illinois (Big 10), and Roburt O Kelley went to Wake forest (ACC). All 3 were freshman of the year in their conferences. If the talent stays home and the coaching staff can piece a few other things together, the sky is the limit. |
