Southern California left tackle Matt Kalil is "set to return" for his senior season according to a source close to the situation.

Kalil, 6-6 and 295 pounds, just finished his second season as the Trojans' starting left tackle. He earned First Team All Pac-12 honors and is currently rated by NFLDraftScout.com as the No. 3 overall prospect in the country. Though his older brother, Ryan, returned for his senior campaign at USC prior to the center being drafted in the second round of the 2007 draft by the Carolina Panthers, most expected Matt to leave early.

A high-ranking NFL scout confirmed that he'd also heard Kalil was "definitely leaning towards returning" and that the decision surprised he and his scouting peers, as well.

"If he does indeed return, it would be a bit surprising. He's the top offensive tackle in the country. The senior class [at offensive tackle] is a weak group. At worst, he'd be looking at a top ten pick. That fact alone would send most guys into the draft."

Kalil's remarkable combination of size and athleticism had kept the Dallas Cowboys' 2011 first round pick Tyron Smith playing on the right side during his career with the Trojans. That didn't keep Jerry Jones and his staff from selecting Smith with the No. 9 overall pick. Smith, incidentally, has performed well this season as the Cowboys' starting right tackle.

Kalil has long been projected to enter the 2012 draft. Chad Reuter and I have each projected him as a potential top five pick in our current first round mock drafts.

Should Kalil return, it could set off of chain reaction pushing other talented USC underclassmen -- including quarterback Matt Barkley -- to shun the NFL and return for their senior seasons. The Trojans' bowl ban ends this year. Considering the talent this team has potentially coming back, a return to national title contention would appear possible.

@j30a1... I think you may be a little off your rocker.  As for not understanding what I wrote, simply read it, it's pretty self-explanatory and to the point.

Also, please stop attempting to sound overly intelligent... it doesn't flow well for you. Although, maybe it just seems that way because everything you wrote was some sort of spewed belligerent venom. Go get a girlfriend... or any friend... just don't be so mad.

Lastly, I have no idea how a kid staying at USC has any basis towards a B10 fan unless they were to play each other in the National Championship or possibly Rose Bowl. Either way, there are too many variables to consider to even care or wonder about that scenario.

You seem to have a compulsion to think that what I wrote was somehow meant to signify or prove something ulterior. I can assure you, it wasn't - it was just a blog entry.

As I previously mentioned, don't be so arrogant and mean. The world is too big and life is too short for that mindset. Good luck

Apparently he didn't want to play for the Vikings, who were most likely going to select this guy to keep Ponder upright for the next 5 to 10 years.  Looks like the Vikes will now have to make a play for Justin Blackmon to make Ponder a better Overall Qb, giving him another best friend to go with AP & harvin---after that its all OL and CB/safety the rest of the way

Good luck

If he does stay it will be more of a teaching role where the other guys will play when we are up to avoid injury.

THat and Kalil (as well as other's who have remained for their Senior seasons at a dominant program such as SC has) knows that no amount of dinero or bling can bring the kind of long term and memory filled joy that the college experience brings.  BMOC is fun filled so long a the big men/man is actually on campus.

If Nick and TJ catch the same kind of "return to glory" bug that Kalil and (hopefully) Barkeley have, these guys could make a serious run for the Crystal next season.  Make Paul Dee look like a fool, silence the critics, erase the foul stentch Bush left on the image of USC football and make any and all B1G contenders shake in their shoes at the prospect of all four of you studs returning for your Senior seasons.

dkhfi:

Your comment has all the makings of an obscure and conclusion-less rant.
Are you trying to assert you're angry with the level of corruption that tries weeding it's way into the lives of every potential 1st round draft player, or are you voicing your dislike for Matt Kalil's decision to stay for his Senior year?    Try having a point/solitary conclusion as to what you are trying to warrant with a single claim next time.

As for the torment and disgusting and corrupt NCAA, NFL agents, NFL scouts, etc.  I wouldn't pigeonhole Kalil into "blindly" acting or associating himself with any of those entities, so long as he is using his free will to avoid making bad decisions or associating with what he is fully aware are "off limits" to him until he's taken his last college snap.  Give Matt the benefit of the doubt in terms of being a responsible and headstrong kid.

Something tells me you're a B1G Conference fan who knows the looming doom that awaits your team should kalil, barkeley and McDonald return next season.  Just spitballing on that conjecture.

Matt comes from a wonderful family, his big brother Ryan stayed for his senior year and has never regretted it.  Whatever decision is made, it will not be based on money or draft position alone for this great kid.  Stay another year Matt, maybe you'll marry a Song Girl like your big brother Ryan!  Fight On!

i think Barkley stays. At this point I am almost certain that Perry bolts and that will sting.
