Denver emerging as new candidate for No. 1 pick?

Posted on: April 19, 2010 7:15 pm
Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert publicly announced that his team had held conversations with the St. Louis Rams about obtaining the No. 1 overall pick.

It will be interesting to see if the Denver Broncos are as forthcoming with their internal conversations.

I am told that some of the reason that Denver has been asking for picks rather than veteran players in return for Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler is that the club is considering making a significant proposal to the Rams for the first overall pick.

The Broncos feature Kyle Orton as their starting quarterback and recently acquired Brady Quinn, but head coach Josh McDaniels is thought to be very high on Sam Bradford and could see Orton as a stopgap starter until Bradford is ready to take over.

The Broncos own four picks within the draft's top 80 selections, including the 11th overall. Josh McDaniiels has shown a willingness to trade future picks in the past. He traded Denver's 2010 first round pick to Seattle last year for the right to move up in the second round and select Wake Forest cornerback Alphonso Smith.

Denver emerging as new candidate for No. 1 pick?

Even tho I am not a fan of McDaniels, he did not give "away" Cutler, and besides what did he do for the Broncos? Ask the Bears, what has he (Cutler) done for them. Marshall and Cutler are/were both head cases with $$$ in the front and rear view mirrows. Orton is not taking the Broncos anywhere, but to the Wendys' drive thru...I am not suggesting Bradford is the next Manning, they still need O line and help in secondary (aging), while drafting McClain and Bryant may help, they will not take Broncos back to the promise land (SuperB).  Sam Branson? Missouri? and the only Locker that is a safe bet, is the "hurt locker".

Bradford seems to fit the fill as far as scheme is concerned as the Denver offense requires you to be extremely accurate with the football. Also if you're going to rant about someone being a moron and then bungle the name of the most talked prospect in the NFL draft, it doesn't bode well for your credibility......

Denver emerging as new candidate for No. 1 pick?

What you said above just blew me away. McDaniels is not smart enough to put his pants on right, let alone make decent draft picks. As you so rightly pointed out in your last sentence, he is lousy at the draft, giving away Cutler, then giving away a first round pick to Seattle for a dud second round choice. He has since given away the farm for NOTHING! He needs to be run out of town on a rail and he can take the rest of the worthless ex-patriots with him. Sam Branson is not a good fit in Denver. We need to have a BIG losing season, get McD fired, hire a real NFL caliber coach and pick up Jake Locker with the first pick in 2011. End of rant!
